Beginner Shibari Immersion Mexico

with fuoco & Shakti Bliss

February 13-20, 2027
Casa Chango Mexico, Puerto Escondido

Spend a WEEK in PARADISE with new friends, the beach, delicious, fresh, local food, and new shibari tools. No experience needed. This retreat is ideal for complete beginners or those who have just started to play with rope. You do not need a partner to attend this retreat, and everyone attending should register as an individual. If there is another attendee that you’d like to share a room with, please register for a shared room and note your preference in your registration form.

Come learn the language of rope in this femme-centric shibari immersion for beginners. Rope bondage is many thing to many people– it’s an art form, a moving meditation, a way to connect to one’s body. For some, it feels core to their erotic identiy. Shibari can be both highly technical and highly aesthetic, drawing in people of many persuasions. Whatever draws you to this practice, there’s no better way to learn than by spending a week eating, sleeping, and drinking rope.

Students can expect to learn the basics of wrapping the body, how to handle rope confidently, and foundational knots and hitches. We’ll learn to tie improvisationally and in conversation with the energy of our partner, and we’ll learn patters to construct popular bondage forms. We’ll discuss models of consent and negotiation and be guided through somatic explorations designed to help you learn more about your boundaries and what excites you. Students will learn by tying on themselves and with others.

Femmes, non-binary, trans-masc folks are all invited to attend, with the invitation to step into an intentionally sapphic space.

Enjoy 2-3 classes each day.

Mornings will consist of a yoga class or other movement class before breakfast designed to get your body ready for the day. After breakfast we’ll have the first rope class of the day. Classes will vary each day and will include theoretical and practical classes and instruction on both the emotional to technical aspects of rope.

After lunch we’ll have a second rope class plus time for relaxing and siesta before dinner. After dinner the space will be open for quiet play or practice.

The rest of your time will be spent eating delicious food, swimming in the pool, lounging in hammocks, and enjoying being in nature.  There will be time to explore local markets and beaches as well as the local night life.

Your Teachers:

fuoco began her rope journey as a bottom in Phoenix in 2012 and shortly thereafter moved to London, where much of her early rope learning happened. Upon moving back to the US, she began presenting at conferences and intensives around the country, while regularly returning to Europe to further her education. Her career as a bondage practitioner, teacher, and performer grew alongside her career as a professional acrobat and movement specialist. She’s trained extensively in partner acrobatics, contortion, and hair hanging, and through these disciplines has developed a keen sense of how to explore intensity in sustainable ways and what it means for two bodies to be in conversation with one another. In 2023 she joined Shibari Study as Director of Education and has been thinking about shibari education full time since.

She believes that kink is inherently political, and strives to bring her politics, values, and an accountability for those values into her teaching spaces. She offers private lessons and sessions out of Imprint Studio in downtown Northampton, MA. Find her on instagram @fuocofet or @imprint.rope

A sacred (s)Witch, somatic educator, and facilitator of ritualistic kink and devotional worship, Shakti Bliss (@the.rope.doula, she/her/they/them) is an intuitive somatic healing guide, full-spectrum birth worker, and Indigenous witch rooted in the lands of the Apache and Kickapoo (post-colonized: Austin, TX). She has been part of the rope community for nearly a decade, first teaching yoga, mobility, and body awareness to rope practitioners before expanding into bottoming education and the energetics of consensual intimacy.

Over the years, Bliss has grown into a competent rigger and rope sWitch whose work centers intimacy, cultural competency, emotional liberation, and consent as living practices inside the rope journey. She believes deeply in reclaiming wellness, sensuality, and authentic self-expression as our collective birthright, using consensual touch, embodied awareness, and ritual to guide people toward deeper self-knowing.

Bliss holds years of training in hatha yoga, tantric philosophy, mindful movement, facilitation, pedagogy, and various aspects of BDSM and kink. A cornerstone of her work is increasing visibility and representation for Black people in kink, sex education, and tantric studies, offering a fresh, spiritually grounded perspective on the ritual and art of interpersonal connection.

She is the owner and co-visionary of The [ _ ] Space in Austin, TX, a studio dedicated to cultivating community through movement, ritual, adult education, and somatic practices, including BDSM/kink and sex ed. When she is not teaching or tying (or being tied), Bliss is providing full-spectrum reproductive justice support and homebirth midwifery care throughout Central Texas.
