Advanced Shibari Retreat:
Attention and Intention

with fuoco & True Blue

February 20-27, 2027
Casa Chango Mexico, Puerto Escondido

Spend a WEEK in PARADISE with new friends, the beach, delicious, fresh, local food, and new shibari tools. This retreat is for tying pairs. You must register as a pair, and registration prices reflect the combined cost of the retreat for two people.

Join fuoco and True Blue for a week of breaking old patterns and exciting new curiosities. This retreat is a unique opportunity to truly level-up your rope practice, immersed in practice and play.

This workshop is ideal for tying pairs who know plenty of harnesses and feel capable of suspension but who want to infuse their rope practice with more connection. You’ll be encouraged to slow down, notice your partner, tie responsively, and collaborate energetically. fuoco and Blue will speak to both topping and bottoming roles throughout the retreat.

The week will include instruction in tying improvisationally and how to bring fresh energy to familiar forms. We’ll offer surprising transitional sequences alongside slower and lower offerings that allow you to give your attention to the more emotional aspects of tying.

Enjoy 2-3 classes each day.

Morning class will consist of a movement class and rope class. Afternoons will consist of a second rope class with time to relax in the pool or take siesta before dinner. After dinner the space will be available for quiet practice or play. One night after dinner we’ll have a play party— toys, leather, latex, or anything else that brings you joy is welcome. Nudity is permitted. Sexual play and/or play that involves fluids is not.

The rest of your time will be spent eating delicious food, swimming in the pool, lounging in hammocks, and enjoying being in nature.  There will be time to explore local markets and beaches as well as the local night life.

Prerequisites:

This retreat is for students who are comfortable with suspension techniques. For riggers, upline management should feel like muscle memory and should be able to tie several upper and lower body harnesses from memory. People being tied should be aware of their body’s needs and considerations regarding safer ranges of motion and nerve sensitivity. Bottoms should also be able to communicate critical information about safety under stress.

Your Teachers:

fuoco began her rope journey as a bottom in Phoenix in 2012 and shortly thereafter moved to London, where much of her early rope learning happened. Upon moving back to the US, she began presenting at conferences and intensives around the country, while regularly returning to Europe to further her education. Her career as a bondage practitioner, teacher, and performer grew alongside her career as a professional acrobat and movement specialist. She’s trained extensively in partner acrobatics, contortion, and hair hanging, and through these disciplines has developed a keen sense of how to explore intensity in sustainable ways and what it means for two bodies to be in conversation with one another. In 2023 she joined Shibari Study as Director of Education and has been thinking about shibari education full time since.

She believes that kink is inherently political, and strives to bring her politics, values, and an accountability for those values into her teaching spaces. She offers private lessons and sessions out of Imprint Studio in downtown Northampton, MA. Find her on instagram @fuocofet or @imprint.rope

Blue has been teaching & performing rope bondage since 2012, primarily in the Bay Area in California. In June 2017, she opened VoxBody Studio, the area’s first rope-dedicated venue. Blue has presented through Shibari Study and at RopeCraft, Bondage Expo Dallas, Desert Bound and Karada House’s Queerope event and performed at events such as Folsom Street Fair, Twisted Windows and Vau de Vire Society productions. She is an enthusiastic switch, believes bondage education should address both sides of the rope, and is so proud of her local rope community that has thrived at the studio and beyond.
